OpenHub Academy – Vocational Training Centre

Let’s see. Imagine you’ve been submitting job applications to company after company. You have the degree. You meet every requirement listed on the vacancy. You’ve crafted your CV to perfection and rehearsed your interview answers in front of the mirror a hundred times.

And still — every time — it ends the same way.

A polite “We’ll get back to you.”
A kind smile that fades as soon as you leave the office.
A hopeful promise: “You’ll be selected next time.”

But next time never comes.

The Familiar Silence

I’ve been there too.

Many years ago, after graduating from the University of Buea, I applied for several positions. I believed, without a doubt, that I was qualified. I had worked hard for that degree. I had studied late nights, sacrificed my social life, and believed that success would be automatic once I crossed the graduation stage.

But life had other lessons in store.

Each interview seemed to end with the same line: “You’re not ready yet. You’ll be considered in the next opportunity.”

I waited for that call for years. It never came.

Back then, I didn’t understand why. But looking back now, I see it clearly. My certificates were fine — but I didn’t have practical experience. I knew the theories of economics, but not how to apply them in real situations. Employers weren’t rejecting my education. They were rejecting my lack of hands-on ability.

The Gap Between Education and Reality

That’s a truth many young people in Cameroon are still living today.

We grow up being told that education is the key to success. But nobody tells us that it’s skills that actually turn that key.

Our schools do well in theory. They train us to memorize, to write exams, to pass. But they rarely teach us to apply what we’ve learned. That’s why so many graduates walk into job interviews with certificates full of grades, but empty hands when it comes to experience.

And employers know it.

They’re not always looking for “first class” or “upper second.” They’re looking for people who can solve problems, who can communicate well, and who understand how to get things done. Those things don’t come from a classroom alone — they come from practice.

What We’re Doing About It

That’s exactly why we created OpenHub Academy.

We saw the gap — between knowledge and skill, between ambition and employability — and decided to bridge it.

OpenHub Academy is not just another training center. Our mission is simple: help people learn, apply, and grow.

We don’t teach lessons for exams; we teach lessons for life. Our programs in are designed to make you useful — not just educated.

And we don’t stop there. Through our licensed Job Placement Service, we help connect our trainees directly with employers and businesses that need their skills. We don’t just teach people how to work; we help them find where to work.

From Job Rejection to Renewal

I never got that call I waited for. But I eventually realized I didn’t need it. I had to make my own call — to myself.

That’s when I started learning practical skills. I learned web design, digital marketing, accounting, and even tax law. I made mistakes, learned again, and kept growing. Years later, those same skills became the foundation for my business, and for the Academy that now helps others build theirs.

So if you’ve been waiting for that phone call — that one opportunity that seems like it’ll change everything — maybe it’s time to stop waiting.

Instead, build something that makes companies call you.

Education is important, but skills still matter.
They give you freedom, confidence, and independence. They open doors — and keep them open.
